Mango from Mexico
A lot of mango can be found in the
USA market from spring to early fall. They are imported from Mexico. It is
surprisingly, not Mexican indigenous fruit, but introduced by British from Philippine
around 200 years ago.
In addition to Mexico, other Latin
countries export mango to USA market are Ecuador, Peru, Haiti, Brazil and
Guatemala. USA also imports mango from some Asian countries such as Thailand,
Pakistan and India.

Actually, American produces mangos
as well, but very limited. They are grown in California, Hawaii, Florida and
Puerto Rico. Florida developed many kinds (varieties) of mango, some of them
are Haden, Keitt, Kent, Tommy Atkins, Valencia Pride and Glenn. However, there
are more than 500 varieties of mango worldwide.
One of varieties called as “Tommy
Atkins” planted commercially in South American countries include Mexico, Peru
and Ecuador. These countries export back to USA in great amount. We can see
easily in many groceries across USA. Just try its!
Mangos!!! One of my Favorite Foods. In California they were easy to find and terrific to enjoy. In Missouri . . (sigh) . . it's a rare treat. Thank you for reminding me of Great Times and Excellent Fresh Fruit.
